Energy changes in reactions

What this model shows

The readings come from the model: typical classroom results for these amounts, read to the nearest 0.5 °C, with a cup that slowly loses or gains a little energy to the room. Real results vary with the grain size, the stirring and the room.

The liquid is drawn deeper than 25 cm³ would be in this cup, so it shows, and the thermometer’s column is drawn longer so its change shows. The waits are shortened: 3 minutes of readings take about 18 seconds.

The magnifier’s particles are a model, not to scale: real particles are far smaller and move much faster.

With reduced motion, each step finishes at once.
