What this model shows
7 g of iron with 2, 4 or 6 g of sulfur. The masses are ideal, rounded values: in a real tube some sulfur burns away at the mouth, and the product often still holds a few grains of unreacted iron, so a magnet may pick up a little even from the 4 g run.
Heating iron and sulfur is a teacher demonstration in a fume cupboard. Hot sulfur that reaches the air burns to sulfur dioxide, a toxic gas; the mineral wool plug holds most of the sulfur vapour back.
The close-up in the card is schematic: atoms are drawn flat and huge, and a real grain holds far more of them. The waits are shortened.
With reduced motion, each step finishes at once.
